The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, has said the College of Architecture and Planning is having discussions with a South Korean Construction Firm to offer consultancy services for the construction of 200,000 housing units in all regional capitals in the country.
Professor Adarkwa disclosed this during the afternoon session of the first day of the 44th Congregation Ceremony held for the College of Architecture and Planning of the KNUST.
Out of 570 graduands, 31 earned First Class Honours degrees, 275 had Second Class Honours (Upper division), 159 obtained Second Class (Lower division), and 13 graduated with a Pass degree. Among the graduands were 94 Architects, 112 Building Technologists, 102 Development Planners, 42 Human Settlement Planners and 128 Land Economists and Valuers.
He noted that the graduands constitute the highest cohort ever to graduate from the College since its establishment.
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the College is working with the Land Administration Project (LAP) of the Ministry of Lands and Forestry to draft a comprehensive Lands Act for the country.
On the introduction of new academic programmes, Prof. Adarkwa gave a hint that the College intends to run a programme in Urban Management during the next academic year.
On his part the University Council Chairman, Paul Victor Obeng, urged the graduands to adapt to the changing socio-economic trends in order not to be a failure on the job market.
In his motivational speech, a former student of the College, Architect, SM Quartey, admonished the graduands to exhibit what they are capable of doing whilst on the job market.
According to him, salaries are nothing to write home about but with patience and humility they could have an edge over their competitors.
To this end, he asked them to be innovative and make time consciousness their prime objective.
